That was laugh out loud funny! You didn’t even touch on the smell factor. Long drops are a parade for all your senses…

Smell: your nose hairs will burn and your eyes will water.

Taste: smell leads directly to the taste of bile in your mouth.

Sight: don’t even attempt to look at the bottom (especially at night with a flash light. I’ve done it. It’s not worth the trauma)

Touch: although you try not to touch anything with your hands you still have a sickly, squishy feel under your feet

And you already mentioned sound: the flies. Oh, Dear God, save me from the flies…and other African insects lurking around the hole and your flip flop clad feet.

so funny! thanks for the breakdown. I have quite the mental image now. I have never had to use such a “facility”…I was relieved to see actual toliets on my mission trip in Mexico. But now I feel very prepared if my travels take me to a place with an outhouse.
